That is way too cool. It looks to me like the Cub engine does just fine in that old Chevy. I'm pretty sure I'd have to just tune it up and keep it as-is. Certainly not a bad installation, and I especially like the IH tachometer on the dash. I've never seen one of those before!!!

Although underpowered, it's certainly unique! I wonder what the installer had in mind?
I would bet it's more what the installer had "on hand" than "in mind".

My Cub Lo Boy gets a significant amount of road time and it's probably the slowest Cub I own. I regularly get passed by bicycles One day I will check the speed with the GPS, but I would guess about 6 MPH.
Possibly an electronic ignition (PERTRONICS) would give a bit of power boost??
I would just trailer it to the parade, that way you don't even need to register it.

I like the setup, I figure the builder looked around for what he had on hand, or for what was physically the same size to reduce modifications. While a cub and the car both weigh about the same, a cub is geared much lower, having a top speed of about 6 1/2 mph, and on much of a hill that loads it down quite a bit. As has been mentioned, it would be great for shows, but trailering it to them rather than driving might be a good idea, but it might not have enough torque with the gearing to climb trailer ramps on it's own, so a winch might me needed for loading.

Don't you DARE change a thing on that car, at least not as far as the powerplant goes. That thing would be an absolute hit at tractor shows.
One thing to keep in mind here is that the 21HP Chevy engine was at the FLYWHEEL. A Cub's HP would be measured at the wheels. Measured at the flywheel it is going to be a lot closer to the Chevy engine than you think. IH used that trick when they rated the 184 Loboy; that's how they got 21HP at the end.
What you need is better gearing somehow. I wonder if you could find a different ring and pinion for the differential. It's probably in the 3:1 range now. If you could get it up to 4.56:1 that would make a huge difference.
Also, those old cars often had a slower reverse than 1st so if you ran out of power in 1st you could turn around and BACK up the hill!

I am waiting for the carb rebuild kit to show up , and then ill go through the ignition system to make sure it is all up to snuff and then im going to road test it on the big hill down from my house ha ha . Ill post a vid . Ive got several irons in the fire right now , and by irons , i mean 55 chevys . So im still debating on whether or not to moth ball the car or get it up on its haunches and road ready and find a new owner.
