gear shift replacement
The gear shift lever broke off on my '51 cub. I can see by the parts blowup that the Guide has to come off from the bottom of the shift lever housing but cannot see how it comes off. Help

See if this helps. http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Mainte ... vement.htm
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: gear shift replacement
For anyone who is unfortunate to have the gear shift lever break off in their hand I can report that the method of removing the guide Barnyard supplied worked....but you want to bring a screw down clamp and a big hammer with you.

Re: gear shift replacement
I want credit to go where it belongs. I only supplied the link to this article. The late George Willer came up with this great idea and wrote the article. George contributed much help to us during his life and it is great that he continues to do so after his passing.
Glad it worked for you.

Don - thanks for posting your repair/improvement piece! Had the shift lever on my '48 snap off at the drill hole and everything went flying into 18" of snow! have a new lever on order, but none of the tractor places I use have the spring, bosses or O-rings. do you have the dimensions of those parts? Thank you! Mike

Re: gear shift replacement
That "how-to" was done by the late George Willer. I just re-posted it here. I do not have any dimensions for the retainers. Maybe someone who has implemented the fix will chime in with some numbers.

Re: gear shift replacement
TM Tractor sells the spring, retainer and pin. You can probably find a 1/2" id spring at your local hardware store. PM sent.
