had to mow today

Postby iosco cub » Thu Jul 10, 2014 7:11 pm

needed to get the camp mowed today for a group coming this weekend. Went for my go to mower(448 Case) got ready to load it checked everything over PTO failed. what am I going to do. Then it hits me, I got a C-3 mower hanging under my Cub. Now my cub has been in storage since July 2012. New battery, fresh gas, fill the radiator, Prime the oil pump hit the starter I'm going mowing.
I always new I had a growl in the trans. previous questions regarding this noise resulted in fact this is quite normal. I'm not so sure that this growl is normal. Before I put the cub away I spent a fair amount of time changing fluids replacing filters including the trans.
Today while mowing I noticed that the noise quit when I was going down an incline but returned when on level or going up an incline. Will this added info help you fellows help me trouble shoot this issue? Thanks Greg

I'm not an expert, but that's exactly what mine does. Uphill = loaded transmission = noisy... downhill = unloaded transmission = quiet.

Glad the cub worked flawlessly! Just make sure you have enough fluid everywhere and you should be fine until you wear out the gears! And that might take a while.

I would have never thought about priming the oil pump if it wasn't for this forum
