In a word - yes. There have been many discussions about what oil to use in a Cub and there are a great deal of various opinions. Do a search on this site and you'll find plenty of posts about oil. One consensus seems to be that if your Cub has been using non-detergent oil you need to keep a close eye on things and change the oil and filter a few times immediately after changing over to detergent because the new oil will loosen up whatever crud the old oil has left deposited throughout the engine.
