They help to bury surface trash by throwing it into the bottom of the furrow. There are several types. I don't recall how to set them but as I recall it is not difficult and once set there isn't much need to change it. The earliest and most common looks like a small plow. Dad always ran a joiner of some kind, couldn't hurt generally helped. Vern

Remember a Piece of #9 wire tied to the coulter and let drag in the furrow pulled weeds & trash down so it was covered better. Dusty B

Been there done that. Except Dad fastened the wire to the front of the plow. Vern
