Tractor sign

No big deal but I thought it was funny. I saw a sign that had a good bit of age to it, it said " IF IT AINT RED, LEAVE IT IN THE SHED " . I guess it was a smack at John Deere.

Because the cadence of the limerick wouldn't be right, it would sound like an old green rig.

I'm reminded of an old man who acquired a new son-in-law. The old man was working for IH in its hay day while the 66 Series tractors were being built. His new son-in-law worked for the other tractor company and the old man wanted to make sure the new son-in-law knew his place. So one day he said to him

"Sonny, do you know why they paint those Deere tractors green?" said the old man.
"Uh, because they're the color of money?" said the son-in-law.
"No sonny, it's so they can hide in the bushes when they pull into the ditch and hide while the red ones come through"


I also recall a conversation I red between a boy and his mother over tomato picking. The mother wanted to be sure the boy only picked the ripe ones so she harped him constantly. Finally the little boy turned around, looked up and said "I got it Mom. Get the International and leave the John Deere."

The John Deere is painted green so when it breaks down you can just pull it over to the fence row and it will blend in with what ever is growing there.

Not to beat a dead horse here but I went to the John Deere dealer near me to pick up parts for my friends throttle vave on the hydrolic system and while I was there an elderly fellow and his daughter came in and he was steamed up about his new JD that he just spent over $40k for and it had a problem. He starts in on the clerk with, " if I had know this GD thing was built in India I would have never boughtit"!!!
It seem most of JD's stuff is made in India, The guy says he thinks only the crappy lawn tractors are made here. Is that ture if so Wow very disapointing.

First, I wouldn't listen to this guy for a minute about where stuff is built. Anytime somebody paints a broad brush like "everything is built in India" raises a red flag for me. Second, If where his equipment was made was that important to him why didn't he ASK before he plunked down 40 big ones?

I also have that sign. It's in my basement along with others.

This also reminds me of something my wife witnessed this summer while waiting to watch me go through downtown with the tractor drive parade this summer.
She and my son were near a little boy and his dad. The little boy kept going bonkers over the red tractors. His dad was clearly disappointed by that, and began suggesting to the child that he liked JD because Grandpa has them. The kid said, "No, I like the red ones like ... (other grandpa) ... ! Besides, J Deeres are too loud!"
When 66 series tractors would go by the boy would shout, "That is awesome, that is soooo my tractor!" The dad would then do the same thing to the very next JD tractor that went by.

My wife thought it was really funny.
