Room for more Cubs
Well really, just more room for the Cubs I already have.
It's a modest addition. The first 8' of the lean-to is new, "camouflaged" to look like the old section to avoid prying eyes. Working on doors next.
This gives me 80 square feet more storage space, enough to park 2-1/2 Cubs, but I'm hoping to make more efficient use of the lean-to space now that it'll be improved and mostly weather-tight.

Matt,
Nice addition! I've added a lean-to to my 12x16 shed, and it's always full. Certainly a great use of space!!!

How about snow load or do you plan on shoveling it or using one of those pull it off things..…Reason I ask is that we live in relatively the same area…I'd like to do that but the longer pitch concerns me as I'm not around in the Winter…But it'd be real handy…. Dave

Re: Room for more Cubs
So far so good with the existing section.
When I moved in the lean-to only had 2x4 rafters every 48" on center, and cheap green fiberglass panels for roofing. It held like that for 20-odd years.
6 or 7 years ago, I doubled the number of rafters and put the steel on. We've had some pretty hefty snowfalls. The snow will slide right off if it gets above 30 and the sun shines a little.
If you built it "right" and used 2x6 rafters on 16" centers like you're s'posed-ta, there should be no worries about it holding up with a 4/12 pitch like that.
I'm in the process of "trussing" the first 20' of the lean-to to get enough clearance to fit my enclosed trailer in there... I hope.

Re: Room for more Cubs
It fits! Just barely, but it definitely fits...
My last camping trip of the year was last weekend, so yesterday I decided to test fit the trailer in its new winter home. Of course, I used the 1967 Cub with Fast Hitch, and it was a good thing I did because there's only 1" of clearance above the right side of the trailer (left in the picture). The trailer had to be kept absolutely level or it would have scraped on the rafters.
This is my airplane trailer. The Cub trailer is out back behind the barn, waiting to be stacked on top of the Multi-Cub trailer that's backed into the other end of the lean-to.
I'm still deciding on how to build the rest of the door. I think I'm going to get some gate hardware from TSC and make it removeable. There is only about 25' between the end of the lean-to and my small shed so I need every inch of maneuvering room.

Re: Room for more Cubs
Matt,
Looks good. I'm just wondering about your 1" of clearance. If you want to take the trailer out in the middle of winter, will frozen ground eliminate your 1" clearance? If so, you may have to let some air out of the tires or do a bit of shovel work to get the clearance needed.

Thanks, I'm concerned about that myself. Not so much about getting the trailer out in the winter, but trailer damage due to the shed roof settling on it under a heavy snow load.
I can move the trailer over towards the main barn about 6" which will gain me some clearance.

Re: Room for more Cubs
Well, Matt - I'm curious about exactly what's in the trailer!! Also, with regards to clearance, I suppose the floor is a hard surface, which would prevent the simple solution of putting the wheels in shallow troughs to easily gain 3 inches? If there is room for you to get between the trailer and the outside wall, you could contstruct a false wall - right next to the trailer - a few 2x4's and a plate on top to take the weight of any winter sagging. I once had a nice 18x20 leanto next to my barn. Then, wife and daughter decided to raise and show dogs, and the leanto got outfitted with doors and windows, a hard floor, insulation all around, and heat - it's now called a kennel room! The Cub became a second-class citizen around the property. Al D

Re: Room for more Cubs
I use the trailer to haul R/C airplanes around to various shows during the summer.
My only issue with digging out the floor is that it will create a low spot. The ice builds up on the other end already, but I'm not exactly sure if that's because it's open to the weather. This fall I plan to put some sort of enclosure on that end, even if it's just a good canvas tarp.
