Hi all,
I was just re-reading my old posts, and was surprised that it has been two years since I asked a question! Actually, I don't have a question, but I wanted to share my experience trying to start Cubby today. It cranked great, but I noticed the ahmeter wasn't twitching to the beat of the starter like it usually does, and it would not fire, so I pulled the distributor cap. The spring which holds the points closed was snapped into two pieces, something I have never seen on any of the old cars or doodlebugs with which I used to tinker in my youth. So, off to get some new points tomorrow.
I also wanted to mention what total crap our gasoline is now, as it really deteriorates over time, even when treated with a good additive. I store my fuel tank full over the winter to prevent rusting, but I may have to rethink this, as the old gas makes it difficult to start and run decently. Seems a waste to dump all that gas out, and I really don't have a good place to dispose of it.
Finally, I retired in June, and hope to attend the Cubfest in Kinderhook this year, just to see some great machines. Dates are 10/10 - 10/12, correct?

Marine Stabil. Advertised to keep ethanol from deteriorating for one year.
Been using it for several years. Install in mid to late fall when winterizing tractors.

I've had spprings on points break, and have seen it on others. Probably aftermarket points. Get replacements from Case IH, or TM. Hope to see you at Cecil's.

Re: points
I have had the springs new points break with A&I and Tisco branded points sets. The points in current production from Case-IH CNH are made in China. I have had 3 fiber blocks fail within hours on new Case-IH China made points already. If you are lucky you might find a dealer with some old stock, they were made in USA up to a few months ago.

The China stuff started a year ago with CNH, You can get a set of top of the line NAPA points that are still American made. But I think they are $20 a set.

Re: points
I was able to get the USA IH points up to last month. I was buying 15-20 sets at a time, twice a month. The distributor caps went Chinese after a long shortage a little over a year ago, Rotor buttons about the same. Points fluctuate in price a lot with IH retail goes from $12-15 up and down weekly.

Re: points
These old tractors will burn a lot of crappy gas. I just mix it with good gas as it is too valuable to throw out. The worse you think it is the less you mix with new.
