Seat moves around

Postby Tubby Creek Farm » Sun Sep 21, 2014 3:44 pm

Hello All

I would like to tighten my seat up. It is the seat post with the spring. It is working for now its just the seat rotates a bit left and right. Real annoying.I don't want to dive into it unless I know I can complete it quickly our Cub is our daily tractor for disking, bed prep etc.

In the back of the seat post are two bolts. One doesn't tighten it feels like the threads are bad in the hole, pulled the bolt the blots threads are fine. Is there a diagram that shows this mechanism or how to adjust the seat up and down?

Parts catalog, superstructure section. 351 883 R1, Guide, seat post - for Cubs with plain seat. It's a rectangular piece of steel that keeps the seat from turning sideways. From description, thinking the seat guide is missing.

Might advertise in "The Vine", perhaps someone has one they are willing to part with. Could contact JP Tractors, advertiser on this site. Other option is to take accurate measurements and make one.

Edit. After rereading the original post 3 or 4 times. My Cub's standard tractor seat has a bit of a wobble. Not much, just enough to let me know that the seat is moving. From the design, not sure you can eliminate 100% of the wobble. A 1/64th inch gap between the seat post guide and the tube - - transmitted to the approximate 12" to the front of the seat may seam like a lot of movement.

If the "key" is missing from the post, you can make one from a piece of 3/8 inch flatbar and drill the two holes to hold it in place.

Hi,
Here is the page from the Cub parts book showing the seat. The 2 bolts hold on the Guide, it is called, like Don posted. The Guide fills in the width of the long slot where the bolts are. Without the guide, the seat will turn to the sides some, like Eugene said. The shaft is supposed to be free to move up and down, when you sit on it, so the spring cushions the ride. The shaft needs oil or grease on it to work easily. There is no up and down adjustment for the seat height that I know of. Click on the pic makes it bigger. :)

Eating more cheeseburgers makes the seat go lower, eating salads makes the seat higher

Yes the guide is there. There is a bit of gap on both sides of the guide.

So I'll leave it as is.

Thanks everyone for the input!
