Yeller Lo Boy Mowing Fort Adams

Postby Buzzard Wing » Sat Oct 18, 2014 11:36 pm

Light duty for me this summer, but a drought here on the coast meant that nothing grew much on my 7 week vacation from mowing. The dry did take something of a toll on the overseed I did in the spring. Oh well.

It was greener before I mowed, the Mott mower does a bit of 'dethatching' too so it looks more brown than it is. The sailboat is a 12 Meter Americas Cup, the mast is about 85' (the sail is reefed some). The cranes are dredging and installing a huge new dock.

Not sure why, but the cruise ships often leave at 4?? The Queen Mary 2 was here the other day too.

ScotLem is not only a hero at Cubfests, but also a hero at the fort. The other week attacked the most colorful foliage on the RI palette at the redoubt..... no more poison ivy on that wall!

It's a flasher.

Larry, you've done a fabulous job cleaning up that old fort. We were in Newport for about 24 hours last year and I took a quick look-see. Beautiful spot. I also saw three 12 metre boats (one was the Intrepid) which was a real thrill. Newport has to be the sailing capital the world.

I haven't tried to figure out why the flasher quit working, it's on the bench now.

Thanks to some fellow volunteers there are no stumps near the edge now, so much easier to mow. I don't look back, spooked me one time I did! The ramps and apron of the crown works got the York rake and areator treatment in the spring along with a donated bag of grass seed. Thanks Scotts! It was a very dry summer but surprising survival! Looks much better now than two years ago in this picture.

Looks good Larry and Scotlem...Sarah and I would be down again to help. This past weekend she replaced all the flail mower blades on the FH mower and she got to mow here. Poor kid's hands are busted up from swapping blades.

Looks like a pretty place.
You're braver than I am! I would be terrified of blowing a tire or something driving that close to the edge!
