Removing spot weld on shaft
In order to replace the bearings, I have to remove a 3/8 inch spot weld on a inside race of an 1-1/2 shaft. Access is not a problem but I don't want to damage the shaft since it probably is not replacable unless I have one custom made by a machine shop. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Stan

4 1/2" grinder with sanding flapper type wheel. And/or a hand held file. Final work with file and finger/touch to test the evenness of the work.

This assembly will have to be removed from the top due to the blade holder not being removable from the bottom; it is welded to the shaft. I'm considering disassembley/removing the top bearing in pieces so the inside race will go down through the housing. The question is: what is the best way to cut the bearing race enough to dissassemble the bearing without damage to the shaft or the housing?

Not knowing what tools are on hand or being able to visualize the problem. The hardware store should have some thin cut off disks for small grinders.
Usually bearing races' are removed with a blunt punch and hammer.

In the picture, the top of the upper bearing inside cone (inside race, ref. #5) is spot welded to the blade holder shaft (ref. #13) about 1 inch below the top of the bearing box (ref. #10). I hope to extract the shaft from the bottom after dissassembly of the upper bearing, then split the inside cone and remove it in pieces if necessary, allowing the shaft to then be cleaned up and reused.
