If engine needs rebuilt, I would just find a replacement engine in decent shape. Unless of course you are set on keeping your engine. Engine in my 47 was stuck and had no luck freeing it up. Replaced engine and kept stuck engine. Plan is to one day rebuild it as it is original engine.

Keep in mind, CubFests are great places to get a lot of things done, BUT, it depends on if the right people are there who can do the desired work, AND, if they are not already committed to doing other repairs. It is easy to say somebody there will give you a hand, but you have to make sure that "somebody" hasn't already told someone else they would help them.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

Unless you have really deep pockets, tackle some of the repair jobs yourself. Other than major engine work, you can do the most of tasks with basic hand tools.

No knowing what the basic shop rate is in your area, guessing $75- per hour our more. Why pay that rate when you can remove the generator and regulator from the tractor and haul to a repair shop to be tested and repaired, then reinstall yourself. You would save 2 to 3 hours of shop rate cost on this one task.
I have an excuse. CRS.

You're right Don. As many times as I've been there, I should know the difference. :headbang

And many of us have made at least one of our own (self included), so we won't judge.

Grab a wrench, dig in, and holler if you have a question. We love to be along for your ride.
