Final Drive Question/transmisson

Postby CraigKennedy » Sun Dec 07, 2014 2:20 pm

Hey yall, I just got done rebuilding my final drives, without the tires on, and the rear lifted up, I cranked the tractor up and put it in gear. In 1st and 2nd gear the right hand final doesn't turn as fast as the left, Actually it stops while the left side is still turning. I disconnected the brake on that side and it seemed to help some. Is this normal? I didn't run for about a minute because I haven't added any gear oil to the finals yet.
I was trying to hear if I could hear any bearing noises coming from the transmission, btw, what would this sound like?

Thanks for all your help, Craig

This would be normal, since there is probably a little more drag or resistance on that side and the differential is doing its job. Will be fine under operation.

Thank you Roger, I was thinking the same thing since the axle is so much longer than the left side.

Would you happen to know how to check for a bad bearing in the transmission?
Thanks, Craig

A bad bearing will make a rumbling noise in operation and you can feel a really bad bearing when turning a shaft by hand.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
