rebuilt 6 volt generator ( where to get one? )

Postby Dave Beck » Fri Jul 15, 2005 12:25 pm

Are the generators available for the cubs anywhere? If anyone knows let me know, I may just have to have mine rebuilt but it is in sad shape so was considering a rebuilt one.

Let me know if anyone has part numbers etc to check and see if available.

Thanks everyone for the help,
Dave

If you scan Ebay sometimes there are some rebuilt generators that are painted and everything. There are also some on there that are from part-outs but might be in better shape if yours in in rough shape. Hope it helps. Hey Dave...You did GOOD :D ! Going to a reputable, local shop is better than "buying someone else's headache" (if ya git my drift!) ! This way, if something goes WRONG  ...you've got a local drive to get it RIGHT :D !

Generator fixed and back to charging!

Postby Dave Beck » Tue Jul 19, 2005 8:52 pm

Well got the generator back from the shop today, polarized it before starting up the tractor and she is charging just like it was supposed to. I priced rebuilt units any where from $169.00 to $229.00 it cost me $25.00 for my local rebuild shop to fix it. He said it was just a problem with the brushes, bearings armature and feild coils all o.k.

This is by far the way to go when you have problems with the generator. Thanks for the advice and help guys!

The old generators and starters for the Cubs are very well built. Even brushes seem to last for a long time. I just installed new brushes in a generator I am redoing today...actually I just did it because i had the new ones...the generator didn't really need them.

The one easiest and quickest way to get these things operating much better is to CLEAN them. I like to use CRC Electro-Motive spray. Lay the unit on a folded up rag, remove the band and spray until the cleaner runs out onto the rag clean. Use the narrow tube to direct the spray. Then wipe out with a small clean rag or blow out with an air hose. COPPER IS 8)
