Not to get in the middle of this great debate but...
My question is was the 2 way plow invented for speed(not having to move over) or to eliminate a dead furrow? Or both?

Drove across many "old" dead furrows when baling hay and I always thought there had to be a better way. I didn't know 2 ways even existed until I got my cubs and got on this forum. Now days its the chisel plow...but I cant seem to find one small enough for my cub!

The two-way or hillside plow was primarily developed for use on steeply sloped terrain. It permitted the farmer to plow in both directions and cast the soil to the uphill side on each pass. This helped to eliminate the soil creeping down the hill over time. The added benefit, of course, is that it enabled faster plowing on flat ground, also.

The last time(late 70's) our farm was plowed a plow similar to this was used,http://www.tractorhouse.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=8598871.

Even though the field is fairly flat, here's a good video that shows how it works.

Don ,
That is the same type that was used on our farm, thanks for the video. The only ground that gets turn over now is our garden,

Thanks Don, Appreciate the video! Interesting that the two way plow would be a "hillside" plow for a offset tractor.

I stumbled across this setup over the summer. It's available somewhere SW of Akron if anyone might be interested.

It's not mine nor do I have any affiliation with the owner. It's a fast hitch setup, I believe for a Super A - 140

Plowing with a cub is a lot of fun get a manual for your plow and it will cut down the learning curve. Its funny but you will learn a lot with a cub plow if you keep at it, adjustments are critical or your plow quickly becomes am anchor, you learn to read your soil conditions as the right moisture will make it cut the soil like a nife
