Hello all,
I need to replace my mower pitman plate, but it looks like I have three options to choose from:
-Plain bearing, Regular
-Ball bearing, 1950-72
-Ball bearing, 1972 and since
I'm pretty sure I need the "Ball Bearing, 1950-72", Part # MD42237 (As a side note, when I look at the individual part on CaseIH, it says "Serial Range 1950-1953). I have no idea what year my mower was built. I'm attaching a photo.
I'd appreciate any input on which is the right part I need.

I'm not sure I've ever seen the last version. If your bearing housing is about the same shape on both sides, you need the middle one. You'll have to grind off the rivets, change the bearing and then use bolts to connect the parts back together. It's an unusual shaped bearing, I don't know if it's available anywhere besides a dealer. Once you have access to it, you might want to check with an auto parts store or bearing store.

Re: Cub-22 pitman plate
I just split the bearing and made a new plat and put it all back together. It has worked fine ever since and didn't cost me a dime except for the bolts to reassemble it.

Re: Cub-22 pitman plate
I got the ball bearing one on Ebay. My attachment bolt was very worn down, so I just put in very thin copper shims (thin film) in it to fill up the slack then greased the heck of it. Used it for almost 6 months now with no problems at all. In fact it made the mower run a lot smoother.
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.

Thanks! I think I will go with the plate for the middle bearing.
