Check with your ISP. You should have 10megs of webspace free with your email account. If it is a broadband account you may be able to have as many as 7 email addresses with the accompanying 10megs/address - you already pay for it....
Check out the Neat things thread on the How to Forum.
Also, check out the fine print on these so-called free hosting sites. You will probably find out that once you upload, you may no longer own the rights to your pictures. Some sites actually claim ownership as part of the usage agreement.

If you have space on your ISP, here is a good program to create the pages with pictures on them.
http://www.webpicturecreator.com/downloads/downloads.asp
It will do everything, create thumbnails, copy the images, let you resize and rotate them.

I have had great sucess with PhotoBucket. It is easy to use and very convenient because it shows the image tag and url of the image in an easy to use format.
A web site is great, but much harder to take an image and make it available to someone in a matter of minutes with little effort or skill. I will eventually have both when I can find a low cost (free??) web page editor (used Word for the link on my profile).
The one downside of Photobucket is that it will limit access for a time when you blast the world with links to photos of your Cub and it's first mow! (along with assorted before and after pictures).
I would also recommend a free tool from Microsoft called 'image resizer'. It makes 'shrinking' the size of a photo for mailing or posting very effortless and convenient. Also it will do a batch of them at once, which none of the high dollar photo editors don't even do.

I much prefer to use the space on my ISP for several reasons.
1. I lost a lot of CAPTIONS belonging to photos I had backed up when Photopoint collapsed. They asked for and received payment for a formerly free site and then skipped town. It was expensive and troublesome to get the content back. It may not be important to others, but this is what was wrongly lost:
http://members.toast.net/gwill/album/Tractors/Farmall/Cubs/Tricycle%5FCub/aindex.htm
It's now safely living on a web site on my ISP. It's much more secure than any free photo host, IMHO.
2. Most sites show a lot more of their site than the pictures displayed. That me and those of us who can't get a high speed connection have larger downloads than necessary to show pictures that are smaller than possible.
3. The space already available (at least on my ISP) keeps getting larger as soon as I fill it to the limit. I have several web pages containing a TON of photos for no additional cost. I'm currently at 20 meg, and have no videos hosted.
4. I and many others use a free photo editor, Irfanview (iview) , to adjust and resize photos. I prefer it over many of the others that I have for ease of use.
This is just an example of the uncluttered photos as they appear on the ISP:

You explained that really well. I tend not to do so well on that explanation. Mostly cause I am spoiled. I upload a lot of what I want for the Cub Forums to the server, so it is just family stuff now on my ISP sites.
Glad to that I am not the only lonely voice in the woods.
Free sites ALWAYS have costs to them no matter what. I alos really do not like the loss of intelectual property rights to these hosting sites. They got to make money somewhere.
One of the sites that I make sure Em and the kids NEVER post photos to is to WebShots. You lose your property rights. They also get to use your photo's without recompense in their galleries as screen savers.
So guys there are a lot of utilities out there to help with resizing photo's.
Irfanview is one of the best and I have been using it for years.
Windows XP Image Resizer is ok but it also requires Windows XP to run. You can get this utility free at Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP which are useful utilities for XP Users.
Share Digital Photos Using Windows XP is a good help page to get you started on using this utility.
Miha's Utilities is also a good photo manipulation program. Easy user interface, although I personally prefer Irfanview.
In conjunction with your ISP, this is probably the safest and most user friendly option available.
This might be another candidate for a How To article. Will work on it.

George & Rudi,
I agree. I use my ISP web space to post my pictures from, for all the reasons George gave. My main objection is the ad's and pop-ups.
It is also a favoriate place for people and companies to insert ad-ware and spy-ware into your computer. I do a scan of my computer once a month and there is almost always one spy or ad based infected area, which I clean.
As for InfranView it's the simplest sizing software to use I've come across.
I'll get off the soapbox now.....Thanks Ron

I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Guys:
Thought I would bring this back up to the front again as it is a useful topic. Also kinelbor1 was kind enough to send me the link to the Resizer he usses and I have added it to this post. I also found a couple of errors - geez I seem to be having a string of this ailment lately... must be because I just got a year older yesterday.... yippee , and I wanted to correct them.
Here is the original with the corrections.

The nice thing about all of these programs is that they are essentially Free Software. Unfortunately as with all things free, there is a catch/cost - and in software/shareware it is the bugs/support issue. Also, be aware that with a lot of shareware, Botware and Viruses can be hidden within the download, so ensure that you are using a good Anti-Virus Program and an SERIES of Anti-Spyware programs such as SpyBot, Ad-Aware Se and Microsofts Anti-Spyware Beta program. These will help to remove offending runtime attachments, but must be used conjunctively. One will not get em all unfortunately.
That is why in conjunction with your ISP, Irfanview is probably the safest and most user friendly option available.

- JPEG Resizer from virtualZONE seems to a useful utility as well.
- Miha's Utilities is also a good photo manipulation program. Relative easy user interface, although not as friendly as Irfanview.
- MicroSoft's Windows XP Powertoys Image Resizer is ok but it is not backwardly compatible to Win2K, WineME or Win98/98SE. You can get this utility free along with HTML Slide Show Wizard and the CD Slide Show Generator. The CD Slide Show Generator is however backwardly compatible to Win9x - hmmmmm useful. Share Digital Photos Using Windows XP is a good help page to get you started on using this utility.
