Is there a diagram that shows the location of all of the numbers? I think that would help us who have not located them all yet.

I don't think there is a complete diagram but most are shown on a TM Tractor Parts page:
http://www.tmtractor.com/id/castdate_loc.htm

Some changed locations over the years, for example very late Touch-Control blocks have it inside the front of the housing.

Raymond,

My correct casting number for the transmission should be 10-3-Q. I don't know why I have two pieces from a '47 unit; the Axle Extension (8-7-Q) and the transmission. During the restoration, I did notice parts with red, yellow and I think white paint. Since the right brake pedal and the clutch/left brake shaft were bent, I suspect this tractor was involved in a role over sometime in it's past.

Keep up the great work, I carry a copy of your work wherever I travel.... just in case. :D

Yes, glad to hear that you are back. I submitted my info in a pm a while back. I sure do appreciate you putting all that together. I'm sure it is a daunting task, but it is very handy and resourceful. Thank you for doing it!

Here is a "new to me" 1951, but (hopefully!) it will be going to a new home! Missing a couple numbers, but didn't have a mirror with me.

I have a question about the Tractor SN vs the Engine SN...I am sure about the CUBM 3217...why are they so different? Anyway, here are the numbers:

Year - 1951
Tractor SN - 142038
Eng - CUBM 3217
Eng cast - ?
Eng block part - 251341R8
Cyl Hd cast - ?
Bolster cast - ?
Torque tube cast - ?-?-W
Trans part - 351530R3
Trans cast - 10-15-W
Axle ext cast - 10-18-W
L final cast - 9-20-W
R final cast - 9-20-W
TC cast - 8-23-W
TC part - 354383R3

Dale, take a look at your tractor SN. A 1951 should have 6 digits. As for the Engine SN and Tractor SN being different, the C60 engine was used for other applications but I've read that IH used consective engine serial numbers for all of them regardless of whether the engine went to a bailer, combine, power unit, etc so the later in the production run the wider the difference between the tractor SN and engine SN. You need to recheck your notes. You have an engine prefix listed for your tractor serial number, which doesn't have enough digits for 1951. You didn't post an engine number. You are a digit short on the TC part number.

Your engine block number is an R8, which has to be from 1964 or later.

Stan, I can't answer for the other engines that IH used for tractor and stationary power plants and their corresponding SN's, but for Cubs and the C-60 engines, they used different SN sequences for the two power unit lines and another for the tractors.

Dale, if you can get the casting numbers from the block, we can narrow it down more. Also, if you look in front of the engine SN prefix (CUBM), check for a "U". If it's there, I'd say you have a 1969 power unit engine transplant.
