Putting an Hitachi 14231 alternator on my '66 cub. The mechanical install is done and worked out well. Wiring up now and am having a problem identifing the terminals on the alternator. The directions tell me there are three terminals..BAT, L & S. The BAT terminal is marked, but the other two terminals are spade connectors inset into the back of the alternator. They are not marked and I'm trying to figure out which is the L & which is the S terminal. Sometimes my 'splaining aint too good, so posted some pictures at my tractor picture site.

If I can get this figured out, should have her wired and back together by the weekend.
BTW, how do you attach photos to a post?
Thanks, H. Fry

The top spade (horiz) is the S (sense) that should be connected to the battery, it senses the voltage. The bottom spade (vert) is the L. This gets the alternator charging. It needs to have a momentary voltage (12 volts) on this lug to get the alternator started. I used a momentary push button switch wired from the + on the battery to the L lug. Some people use a diode or a light but I found the momentary to be the best solution for me.
Hope this helps.
