Has anyone built a flip seat for the Cub? I've looked on the search and didn't see anything.
I have been plowing snow and have the need to get off of the old gal once in a while, to get a bite to eat or another cup of coffee, come back to a snow covered seat.
Any one tried it, or are they more trouble than their worth? I read an old post of how they don't do well in hilly country (good story)
Bruce.

Re: Flip Seat
Bruce, I don't recall anyone having done that on this Forum with a Cub seat. There might be a safety issue involved. A Forum member's daughter used to make real nice gore tex seat covers, but a plastic trash bag might work just as well. I use one of the micro-waveable stadium cushions. More cushion and keeps that part of my anatomy toasty warm.

Re: Flip Seat
Hmmm, warm stadium cushion....I'm kinda of likin that idea, but I'm going to think on it. I'm in visioning a seat that flips
towards the steering wheel, if it flips to one side I could see a problem, oh well just a thought while at work, just think what thoughts I'll be having in a few years when I retire!

Re: Flip Seat
I feel like there would be less room than you are imagining. With a seat on tracks like a car seat so you could go from tight to the straying wheel to way off the platform. Should have lots of room.

Re: Flip Seat
Don't remember whether it was our M or our 400 (may even have been both) had a seat that you could flip to the rear so it was upside down. One of those may be adaptable to a cub.

Re: Flip Seat
I bought this seat bracket several years ago at a tractor show/swap meet. It is one that IH sold and we had some like it on our 350 and C. It lets you flip the seat clear back or flip up the back for standing up on the tractor. It just bolts on using the existing mounting holes.

Re: Flip Seat
I have a PO installed flip seat on one of my Cubs. I don't have pictures handy but it is basically a flat piece of metal that bolts to the seat post. A heavy duty square door hinge is welded to the front of the metal bolted onto the seat post. And I don't remember if there's another piece of metal the seat pan bolts to or the hinge is welded to the seat. It also has an adjustable back rest off of an old style secretaries chair.
(Previous description from memory) The backrest comment made me remember that Johnny had made a comment about the seat one time when he was fixing a final drive separation issue for me. I searched for it and he included several pictures in his thread. Not a factory seat but easy to duplicate with one.

Re: Flip Seat
I too have a flip seat by a PO (previous owner) . very well done , he worked at the shipyards in New Orleans . he also brought the fenders , mower , seat , dash , rear wheel centers , and radiator supports to work and had them hot dipped galvanized , it looks 1/8 thick , like they used to do it . when I picked up the tractor the mower deck was barely visible , stuck down in the black Mississippi mud near the levee. It had been like that for years . I wrote off the deck to rust until we got it out . not a single bit of rust . i'll get some pictures posted of the seat and how he decided to do it . coppersmythe........................................PS : DALE , I have not forgotten your pics

Re: Flip Seat
Or go with a deluxe seat and just take the cushion inside with you.

Re: Flip Seat
A lot of good ideas guys, Peter P. that's a sweet set up but I'm afraid I would need a big screen tv to go along with it
I was thinking more along the line of what Scrivet has, small hinge style that flips to the front.
I'll come up with something when I have a little free time. Not a whole lot of that latley,
Can't wait for spring!!

Re: Flip Seat
Both of our Farmall Hs had the flip seats. a lot more room on the platform and after a few hours it felt good to stand up and stretch every so often, but when you do make sure the cushion is tied on. Our tractors were seldom left outside except in nice weather when haying, but when they are flipped up the birds really like that edge to roost on. A large trash bag in the tool box is real handy to slip over the seat when going in the house for a few minutes.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
