Inside Casting Paint

Postby Brandon Webb » Wed Feb 11, 2015 3:42 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew if the red colored paint IH used on the inside of castings was just a primer, or glyptal paint? I know this was mainly used for sealing the casting from rusting and sand from the castings getting inside the bearings. I would like to use primer, but Glyptal paint is something like $50 a spray can and even higher by the gallon. Thanks in advance.

If you use Glyptal, you need to bake it at about 250 degrees to cross-link the polymer. A powder coating shop can do this for you. This is not a task for the kitchen.
