Installing additonal hydraulics

Postby Dan Robertson » Sat Jul 23, 2005 9:13 am

I am beginning to do the plumbing for the rear lift cylinder, and the remote valve. Sometime back someone posted a pic (which I thought I saved) :( of their solution to providing access of the return oil to the reservoir while at the same time alllowing access to check and maintain fluid levels in the hydraulic system. If anyone has that photo, opinions, advice etc., it would surely be appreciated. When I get this completed and painted up I will post more photos. Thanks for any/all help provided. :D

Dan,
That looks like a very interesting project!
I will enjoy keeping track of your progress on that one.
Might well be worth a stop at Beautiful Bloomington to see, even for an old Boiler!
Good luck with it!
One of the few advantages of growing older is that I finally realized that I haven't made ALL the stupid mistakes! Yet!

You nailed it Bigdog, :D that is the one. I just recently found the article, and the photos in question using the search method. Here is the URL ---- http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7865&highlight= ---- if anyone is interested.
Next question :?: --- are any of you machinists out there equipped, and interested in making this fitting? 8) Looks like a regular 1/2" npt. T fitting would work with a regular pipe plug, along with the special machined male fitting to fit the hyd. reservoir (I think 7/8"X ?thrd, and copper sealing washer) X 1/2" npt pipe on the other end. If equipped to do the odd female thrd of the original hyd reservoir plug into the T fitting as shown in the photo would be extra nice addition. It appears to me that everyone that has purchased a hydraulic bypass block for added remote hydraulics would need a fitting simliar to this for the return oil.

Dan, send a PM to Bill Poor (wkpoor). He had his machined and can probably either put you in touch with his machinist or maybe get one made for you.

Dan:

Can you document and put together as an article? It would be a good one!

wkpoor can get you set up with what you need and can get the bypass blocks also. His friend is a very good machinest who does great work at a fair price. I have both the piece in the pic and the bypass block.

Dan or anyone interested- Earl has spooled and tooled up for all your hydraulic accessory needs. We have everything in stock and ready to ship. Just drop me a PM or email me @ wkpoor@aol.com to find out what you need. Also Earl just showed me today something I thought was very interesting. He noticed back at Cubfest that International hardware can be somewhat unique. So he was wondering how many people would be interested in dot head bolts for there very correct restoration? He showed me a bolt that he produced the dot and it looked original.

When WKPoor mentioned the dot head bolts reminded me  of how I found the centers for the holes I drilled into the lift cylinder brackets that I fabricated. (See pics above) I applied a slight amount of gun grease with a tootpick to the dot on the head of the bolts while they were still in place holding the torgue tube to the transmission. Then carefully slid the bracket up to the head of the bolts. Results were a very distinct smudge of grease on the bracket perfectly centered where the hole needed to be drilled. :D A quick hammer blow on a center punch, pilot drilled with a 3/16" bit, then drilled out with a 1/2" bit, and I had holes that required almost no reaming for the 1/2" bolts to be installed. :D
I'm sure I am not the first to use this method, but don't remember seeing such a tip posted recently.

Dan, that is the type of tip that needs to be added to the "How to" forum.
