New rear rims
I want to buy two new rear Cub rims (7x24) and I see several places offer aftermarket rims. Does anyone know if any available come with quality paint or will they need repainted for a restore project?

I don't know about the paint, but when you mount the aftermarket rims you will need carriage bolts. You can not use the original square head style bolts.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: New rear rims
I recently bought a pair of used ones in real good condition from a salvage yard. $60.00 each if I remember right.

Yes, I have seen $60 to $70 as the going rate for used. JP Tractor usually has a good supply. Give them a call.

Re: New rear rims
Thanks for the replies. I bought a set off of eBay. They all look to be made from the same manufacturer so I just bought the cheapest offered with the cheapest shipping (right or wrong). I did ask a couple sellers of the paint quality and they suggested they would probably be scratched from shipping

Re: New rear rims
Don't loose the square head bolts till you price used ones. New ones (NOS)are NLA.

Dan, the old square bolts won't work with aftermarket wheels. You need carriage bolts.

Re: New rear rims
One of my old rims had the square head bolts and the other someone used regular hex head bolts. Mad it a little fun getting those off.

Re: New rear rims
It has been a while since I looked at the rear rim bolts. It should be possible to use a MIG welder (with gas) to build up the head on an ordinary bolt and then grind it to size and shape, square. Requires some patience. The new rims may not accept the square head at all.
Luck favors those who are prepared

Re: New rear rims
What I meant was they have value, someone may want to buy them as they are hard/expensive to find.
