Engine momentarily stalls when going over bumps
"61" Farmall Cub engine runs good when sitting in garage but when plowing and discing it stalls momentarily (never shutting off entirely) when going over bumpy ground. Is this a fuel/carb issue or an electrical issue?

Check your wiring. There may be a bare wire momentarily bouncing against the metal as you hit a bump. Also make sure your plug wires are in tight. A loose coil wire could cause it to cut out on a bounce.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Engine momentarily stalls when going over bumps
Welcome.
Agree with Bill (Barnyard) that its most likely a loose electrical connection some place or bare wire.
It's going to be a low cost/no cost fix. I would start checking all electrical connections and the wiring at the front of the engine and working back towards the dash. The problem is most likely going to be in the ignition circuit.

I have an excuse. CRS.

If it just an exposed wire, some electrical tape can fix this right up if you don't want to get new wires. Thats what I do with worn down sections of the old wiring haha

It could also be the terminals on the battery if the connectors are not tightened down they can lead to a momentary loss of power.

Thanks kluf357,
I think it was a loose battery clamp that was causing the problem. Was plowing over the w-end and had no problem at all. I'll have to keep this in mind every time I put the battery in after the winter.

Check to make sure your generator is working.
If the battery clamp comes of or looses connection it should still run if you have output from generator.

Not if it's the ground clamp! I had your symptoms, and it turned out to be a loose positive battery cable clamp.

Re: Engine momentarily stalls when going over bumps
It was the ground(positive) clamp that was loose. There's a pitting on the side of the post and the clamp where it was supposedly arcing? So if the other cable is loose it will still keep running a while(as Mike in Louisiana stated)? Thanks for the info. everyone. This was my dads Cub that I inherited and i'm learning a lot about these old tractors.

Yes, if the generator is working, it will provide the "juice" to run the tractor. But if the ground cable is loose, you no longer have a complete circuit, so everything goes dead.
