Picked Up a Surprise Tonight, Updated
I got a call about a cub for sale and the owner told me it was a 56, so went to look at and it was not what I expected, It is a high crop as you can see, has nice rear tires and wheels, the wheel spacers and the wide front end and the 15" fronts.
this came from the "black dirt" country near the NY/NJ border, he said he was 89 and time to sell the tractor, he told me he drove it since it was new. he went to work for a sod farm as a teen & 15 years later he bought the business, the former owner bought the cub new when he was hired to work at the sod farm and he used till 2005 he thinks when he parked it in his shed at home, still in original paint, perfect grill, one fender was missing and the other has been hacked, did not even have to put air in the tires! still turns over so do not think it will take much to get it going, other than that nice untouched cub, love the super long cultivator shanks for it, will try and get her cranked up in day light
Tim
Update, worked on her today, cleaned the fuel bowl and points, added a battery, started right up with no smoke, pegs the oil pressure gauge, hydraulics worked, charges, even one headlight works, drove it around, has a nice quiet trans, clutch is good, does not need much to be a working tractor, you can see in the added pictures how wide this can be, its 83" between the trailer fenders and it comes close to them, good thing I brought the big trailer as it was already hooked to the truck, if I used the enclosed trailer I have it would have not fit inside

Nice Tractor. I live by there and drive thru everyday to go to work. Pine Island has lots of old tractors. Good luck getting it going!

This is my thought exactly. I read stories like this all the time, and it never stops amazing me how some of you do it. I joined this site some time back wanting to learn as much as I can about Cub tractors. I haven't owned one since 1983. Loved that little tractor. Bought it from a friend, with a trailer load of equipment for 1000.00 back then. My , thank God, X wife decided a year later that she didn't like the country life, and we would up selling the small farm that we had, and moving to the city. I promised my father who always had a couple of acres in a garden that I would give him the Cub. She sold it without me knowing the next week for $800.00. Anyway, now I am semi retired, and have 60+ acres to play with. I have a Ford 600, and love the tractor, but have wanted another Cub ever since. My business puts me in touch with a lot of people who are like me country people who farm or garden. I am going to find the right Cub at some point. All I am waiting for is that one call.
Congrats on you find. hopefully I will be on here soon to start asking questions on how to fix this or that.
Have read so much of this forum I feel like I know all of you. Gook luck, and God bless.
