tst wrote:I got a call about a cub for sale and the owner told me it was a 56, so went to look at and it was not what I expected, It is a high crop as you can see, has nice rear tires and wheels, the wheel spacers and the wide front end and the 15" fronts.
this came from the "black dirt" country near the NY/NJ border, he said he was 89 and time to sell the tractor, he told me he drove it since it was new. he went to work for a sod farm as a teen & 15 years later he bought the business, the former owner bought the cub new when he was hired to work at the sod farm and he used till 2005 he thinks when he parked it in his shed at home, still in original paint, perfect grill, one fender was missing and the other has been hacked, did not even have to put air in the tires! still turns over so do not think it will take much to get it going, other than that nice untouched cub, love the super long cultivator shanks for it, will try and get her cranked up in day light
Tim
That's a great story. Love to hear that type of stuff.

No, this Cub is not mine. It is one that Rick Prentice put together (masterfully, I might add) and I failed to note that. Do an advanced search (upper right corner of this page) using backhoe and Rick Prentice and you should get several threads. This unit is very well done and very capable.

Sweet. Nice find. I already have 2 High and wides but always looking for more, although according to my wife I already have to much. Find most in my own back yard,Great Meadows black dirt and in the pine island NY area. When thru pine island and couple of weeks ago to pick up a flathead ford engine for a tractor. Did a little back road freestyling but didn't see anything of interest. You must have better cub connections.

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm guessing this is veggie country? Were high/wides pretty common there? Also, I have to ask, what about Super AVs in that neck of the woods?
Your new Cub looks great!!

Re: Picked Up a Surprise Tonight, Updated
New York black dirt was all onions when these tractors were new. Now there are a lot of veggies too. I went by a beat '56 Hi Crop a few years ago on the side of the road with some sprayer rig remnants attached.
I must have seen a dozen Allis Gs as well. Pine Island is a raised hump in the middle of the lake bottom. The black dirt area is reputed to "quake" like jello. Fascinating place.

Still some veggies and shrubs / flowers being grown in the black dirt down here, but most have been turned into sod farms. I guess there's more money in sod.
