wheels, front axle question
took the front axle off of 53 cub to widen - anyhow it took two people and a lot of force to get the wheels out of the spindles - especially tough it seemed getting them pass grease fitting areas - anyhow wondering if there are any tricks for getting the wheels back into the spindles?? feels like they barely want to go back in a half inch. should i sand or what ... thank you

Not sure what you mean. Getting the spindles out of the axle or getting the wheel hubs off the spindles? If it's the former then you're probably right, especially if it uses a jamb bolt to secure the steering arm. I would suggest finding something of the same ID as the spindle housing and testing the fit as you go, watching for the high spots on the spindle.

Re: wheels, front axle question
I believe a 53 would still have had set screws, in which case the top of the spindles are normally distorted after years of the screws being tightened, and the wear. You will see what I mean if you lay a straight edge on the shaft at the top. It will be pushed out a little in places leaving slight gaps just below where the knuckle attaches. You will need to use some emory cloth or similar, or careful work with a file to get it back town to the right size and keep it round. Putting a slight taper on the top will help get it started into the top bushing without affecting the way the knuckle mounts. Are there any signs of it having been rewelded where the horizontal and vertical tubes meet? If so the shaft may be bent or the tubes not true throwing you off.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
