Mule drive hits drawbar

Postby stevey30 » Sat Apr 18, 2015 7:42 pm

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I cannot get the mule drive for my Woods 42 to fit unless I remove the drawbar. If I leave the drawbar on the mule drive won't slide between the drawbar and the bolts tha go into the final drives.I really don't want to leave the drawbar off,I even flipped the drawbar 180* thinking maybe it was bent or something, still hits.

Might be a manual in the list at the top of the page. I got a detailed manual in PDF format for my RM 42C from WOODS via email directly from WOODS customer service. Stan

What model mower/tractor? Someone probably has a picture that could be posted or emailed to you.

Mount the mule drive to the drawbar first and then place whole assembly on tractor. You are mounting the mule drive to the drawbar brackets just above the drawbar with the two pieces of flat stock, right? You may have to loosen the drawbar brackets from the drawbar a little for mule drive to slide between. Doesn't take much of a bend in drawbar to make it a tight fit

 Were you going clockwise or counterclockwise?

Seriously, This is a regular Cub and not a LoBoy right? Has somebody stripped out the 5/8 bolts and put 3/4 or bigger bolts in there? They would have a bigger head.

I think the bolts are factory, they take a 1" wrench,I will measure tonight but it think they are about 5/8" in size.If it's not pouring rain I may take hangers off and try to bolt everything together on the ground and see if that works any better.I have it mounted just like the picture, but it just doesn't seem to clear the drawbar and hanger bolts.I will play with it some more and see if I can get it to work, thanks for all the info.

If it doesn't fit, then I'd say something has been modified. Is it a factory mule drive for a cub? Pics might help

Maybe a clearance problem if the drawbar is set to the highest position?
