Blue Cub?

Postby we1953cub » Tue May 05, 2015 12:07 pm

After acquiring 11 different farmalls over the last few years I decided it was time to buy a cub simply because I have never owned one. I drove 16 hrs round trip this weekend and purchased a 54 model cub. I am the third owner with the second owning it only 10 years of its existence. My question is this; I started sanding the hood which had been hand painted by the previous owner with a brush and came across a layer of dark blue paint like you would see on the older farmalls. I contacted the seller who said he purchased 10 years ago with the hood being blue. the hood and side panels are the only place this appears. Could this have been a demonstrator painted blue instead of white? Any help solving this would be appreciated. Thanks

Demonstrators were never painted blue, but the Cubs used by the Air Force were.

A former forum member bought a blue Cub that had been used as a tug for airplanes at a small airport in Montana. I don't know if it had Air Force history or not though.

I can attest to the fact they the USAF is very fond of painting everything blue. My dad was in the AF for a lot of years and I saw the inside of many bases.
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.

Thanks for the help. Now the real question. Paint it back blue or red?

If you can ID it as an Air Force Cub, then go with blue. It should have government nomenclature plates on it if it is AF. Otherwise, go with red. With only a part of it being blue, my guess is it is not AF. They would have been all blue.
