ID year from casting code

Postby staninlowerAL » Thu May 07, 2015 9:44 pm

Casting code on the block below carb is 1 16 Z. I'll have to clean the engine sn before it's readable. Tractor SN plate on bolster is missing so I can't use the chart to get the year. I know that letter T is for 1972 so someone help me on this one.

EDIT: Checked Raymond's Cub database page 28 shows 1 16 Z is probably 1976. Looks to be a longstripe but will have to do a lot more checking.

Re: ID year from casting code/engine sn

Update on the engine ID info: serial number is 60CT2U31489? X3 and engine cast code is 1 16 Z. From Raymond's Database this looks to be in the first few months of 1976. I've determined that the engine is not stuck, turns with hand crank, no parts are missing although the fuel tank will probably have to be replaced along with the dash. Any comments welcome. Stan

The letter T is also for 1950, but it looks like to me the bolster must have been replaced on it if that code what it says on it. I would venture to say that whoever put the bolster on there removed the serial number plate to keep from the tractor being mistaken for the 1972 model that supplied the bolster. If only everyone could be so honest...

Looks like it has a lot of potential. Good luck with it!

Maybe I was not clear about the T cast code. I have not found any letter T cast codes on the tractor. The cast code 1 16 T appears on a 154 LoBoy that I reciently got, I was only referencing that as a point of identification. Sorry

Oh, I understand what you were saying now. I didn't read it that way at first. I'm the one who should be apologizing.

It's been a long time since I dragged it out of the woods (actually almost 2 years) but this Longstripe ran for the first time today for about 30 minutes, actually ran pretty good. :) Now it's on to DSCF with it tomorrow where I'll get some genuine "expert" advise and suggestions and  on where to go from here with it. I've already acquired a FH go go on it. :big smile: Stan

Hi,
Here is info from TM Tractor showing where the casting codes are, and the table showing the years. Maybe you already saw it, Stan. :)

Thanks Glen. Yeah, I've already searched for the casting codes. They range from January to March of 1976 except for the head which has probably been replaced. It is R1, not the right part number for the later R2 head used with the domed pistons. I've not removed it yet and probably won't do so unless there is some mechanical reason to do it. Stan
