new rebuild - leaking rear seal

Postby Dave (69 lo-boy) » Thu May 14, 2015 6:35 pm

I finally got my Cub running again, the engine sounds good, but the rear crank seal is leaking.
I read here while working on it that the rear seals are a problem, the old seal fell out when removed the housing and the new seal was a loose fit so I put a thin ring of permatex in the recess and staked it to tighten it up.
When I installed it I noticed that when I put the bolts in place it seemed to move the seal off center, but I crossed my fingers and installed it (it seemed to be pulling the seal toward the top of the engine).
What is my best plan now?
Thanks,
Dave

Split the tractor again and replace the rear seal retainer with one from Tim (tst). Problem solved.
