1. help i recently added a loboy to my collection that was in pieces. the serial numbre tag was removed 1 or 2 owners ago during the restoration process. the following are the numbers i could find. On top of the head: 251228 - R- 1, 2, 4-7-0, I. The following numbrers were on the right side of the crank case 251841-R-1, 6-18-0. The following numbers were on the transmission column 351686. The following numbers were to the right of the carb FCUB (AA or M) (1 or I) 930. If i had to guess this was a 1955 cub loboy serial number 930. is this correct?

2. Is there any resource, book or internet site that has numerous pictures of the various style cubs there were? as near as i can figure there was 14 style versions up to the 184 loboy. (including one for the demonstartor). would this be correct? where would i go look or get a book.

thanks

First, Image to the greatest forum on the internet, and to the Cub Family. You will find that all the folks on this forum are kind, helpful and just full of Cub info and knowledge. They also happen to be the finest folks I have ever met :!: :D

Ok, so here is the spiel Image:

I would suggest that you read this thread: New Members and Visitors, Please READ. There are many great links to informative pages such as the ATIS FAQ's 1 and ATIS FAQ's 2, The Best of H.L. Chauvin who has written very interesting articles on troubleshooting common problems with your Cub.

Also, you might want to visit the Cub Manual Server as there is tons of info on servicing, maintaining and re-building your Cub. In addition to this basic information, there are also a number of other useful tools available on the server. There is the Specialty Services page which has contact info for neat stuff like getting your seats recovered, buying quality Decals, Serial Number tags and a host of other neat items. Also there are the Parts Pages - both Used Parts Suppliers and New Parts Suppliers pages with links to quality dealers. I am always looking for YOUR favourite dealers for New and Used Parts to include here. These are intended to complement the businesses who support FarmallCub.com Website.

I would also recommend that you visit Binder Books and purchase the three most important manuals you can own for Maintenance, Repair and Rebuilding your Cub. These are the Owner's Manual, the GSS-1411 Service Manual and the TC-37F Parts Manual. Although they are available on the Cub Manual Server, it is better is you also have your own paper copy. Binder Books is the only Authorized IH Publication Reprint House and they have the best quality manuals available. Most other's are not of the same quality. Just a personal thought here, the I&T Shop Manuals, although helpful in some areas, really are not sufficient for the job. If you wish though, they are good additional reference works.

In addition to the above information, don't forget to check out the various articles that are available to help with your Repair, Restore, Rebuild or just your Maintenance Projects. There are a number of sub pages such as Electrolysis or Rust Zapper's, Maintenance Tips, Jigs and Techniques, Implement and Part Sketches and of course the Paint, Decals & Other Finish Questions which has the Paint Chart and the Paint Committee Decisions links.

I truly hope that you enjoy your Cub and that you will be a frequent contributor to the forum. Again, Image to the Cub FamilyImage :D

Now for other help.. if you go to How To Identify Your Tractor at TM Tractor Parts, you can learn how to identify your tractor.

6-18-O is the casting date
251228 - R- 1 is the part number of the head
FCUB (AA or M) (1 or I) 930 probably reads FCUBM 1930 which would be the engine serial number.

The 6-18-O means that particular part was cast on the 18th of June 1968.
The FCubM 1930 is the engine serial number, which is very low and would indicate a 1947 build date. This leads me to suspect that a couple things are not correct.

First, this is not a Lo-Boy or that the engine has been replaced with one that was manufactured in 1947... which is probably doubtful, unless of course the O is actually a Q which would then mean the head is a 1947 also. Are you sure it is a Lo-Boy?????

Also:

Ken Updike has written this book which is a great resource and you can find it at Amazon.com after searching for Farmall Cub.

Guy Fay's Farmall Letter Series Tractors (Originality Guide) is an excellent resource and a must have book.

This is a pic of a 1947-49 Cub. Does it look like yours?

This is a 1955-56 Cub Lo-Boy. Does it look like yours?

This is a Cub-154 Lo-Boy. I doubt your Cub looks like this..

and this is a 185

and a 184

As far as question number 2, it is pretty well covered in the Welcome part of this response.

Hope it helps... happy reading :D 8)

I'd say you got a pile of parts from different tractors. When the lo-boys were introduced in 55, the casting codes were re-started with the letter A. So an "O" casting code wouldn't have shown up until 1968.

This link will take you to a serial number page with pictures.

:(
Well i got a 49 cub, a 55 cub, a 184 and a 154 cubs. This tractor i bought in a box is as listed. it appears that i was correct that this tractor has been pieced together with several different tractors. the frame is the 8 inches lower than my high boys (which would make this a loboy). the hood however allows for the exhaust, which if i am correct the loboys did not have exhaust out the hood, they went under to the back tire, as in my 55 cub. i got eh ken updike book, however find it lacking in desciption and pictation of the cub as it progressed. would the guy fay be a better more detailed of the cub, or is it just going to give me what i already got? i got the manuals for the cub as well, and yes they are a good source of info.

As good as Guy Fay's book is, it isn't going to help you any more than what you have now. So you have a Johnny Cash Cub. (one piece at a time) I don't know what your intention for the tractor is but is sounds like an interesting project.

A "classic style" Loboy is easy to identify:

1. The final drives are pointed forward rather than down.
2. The tie rods cross over each other in the front.
3. The front end is short.

Given that he has two classic Farmalls, I think we can trust videodoc's assessment that it's a LoBoy :)

John, what did you do with this tractor?
I know this was a long time ago, but I am thinking that with:
EngSN = FCUBM 1930
Block PN = 251341R1
Block C/C = 6-18-Q
Head C/C = 4-7-Q
This would be an early 47 circle cub, not a 55 or 68 as mentioned above.

we eneded up determining that it was mostly a 59 loboy tractor. i cant get to my pictures from work. But it was pretty when i was done putting it back togther. "Basketcase" was her name. I ended up having to sell her several years ago. Funding was short, and wife said sell one of them unused tractors. So off it went. It flips into the main page pictures every once in a while. So be looking for basket case.

I don't think I was hitting on all cylinders when I started to read this post. I was reading Rudi's welcome to videodoc and thinking what great information, then came to John(videodoc)'s post and saw over 6000 posts and thought what in the world is going on what did I miss?? :? Then saw the thread date Aug 05.
I guess that happens when you get older.

Sorry Paul, I guess in hindsight I should have sent a PM to John about this
I guess if nothing else it's an example to others to go over a tractor from front to back to see exactly what you are working with!
