Rad Fluid Low?

Postby Rocket Man » Thu Jun 04, 2015 6:15 pm

I ran my cub for less than 2 hours today (hard)
and touched the rad cab and it was hotter to me.
I parked the cub let it cool.
Checked the fluid and I could still not see any fluid.
I stuck my finger in and some was on my finger
but still should I just add some premixed fluid until its topped up.

Probably no need to add anything yet. Take a flashlight and look to either side of the pipe right under the radiator neck. As long as there is fluid above the tubes, you are fine. The Cub does not have an expansion tank in the cooling system. The area above the tubes serves as the expansion tank when the Cub gets to operating temperature. If you fill this area (top it off) while the Cub is cold, when working the Cub and bringing it up to operating temperature, the liquid will expand and flow out the overflow tube. When the Cub cools again the fluid will just cover the tubes. This is the normal operating level for a cold engine.

Hope this helps. I wasted a bit of coolent learning this lesson. :)

It's fine if fluid is covering the tubes. If you fill it up, it will come out overflow tube next time you use it until it's at proper level. If you haven't already done so, I'd advise flushing the coolant system. Crud collects in the bolster over time.

I see Mr Bill beat me to it. Gotta be quick to beat Mr Bill! :-)
