We have a Farmall Cub - Serial No 72175 -6 volt -which came from France. We need a new distributor cap (along with rotor, points, condenser) .There is no number on the distributor but there is the latter 'D'. Would it be safe to assume it is a Delco distributor? Is there a way of telling if it is a Delco or a IH one?
We will have to arrange postage of the parts to Ireland and with the cost of postage, we don't want to order the wrong parts. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Distributor ID Problem
If your Cub is a French Cub it may have a Lucas distributor and voltage regulator and a Solex carburetor.

Re: Distributor ID Problem
Is there a Case, New Holland, IH dealership (now one company CNH) near by. If so, stop in and inquire.
Next thought. Remove the distributor and take to an auto parts store with an old guy behind the counter.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Distributor ID Problem
Thank you for the replies. We have dated the Cub to 1949 (from the serial no) and checking records , production in France did not start until much later. If we are wrong, hopefully someone will correct us. So the Cub was made in the US which we think rules out a Lucas distributor -yes?

Re: Distributor ID Problem
Hi,
If you could post some pictures of the distributor, and serial number plate on the tractor, it would help us. The serial number plate on a French Cub says it is made in France, in the pictures I have seen.

Re: Distributor ID Problem
Interesting question... but I would guess it is a US made Cub which would make it easy to replace. Pretty sure all the 4 Cyl IH stuff used the same cap and 'ignition' parts. An auto parts store near farm country would likely have it in stock.

Re: Distributor ID Problem
IF it is a USA Cub, it is most likely an IH distributor. There are some with Prestolite. Look at these pictures from TM tractor parts to see if it is IH or not:
