Hi all, I have a 48 cub which gets its power supply from a 12 volt battery it has an external coil and condenser. My query is should the points gap be 0.020, instead of the normal 0.013 when it has a mag supply the spark.?? Thanks in advance guys

.013, assuming we are discussing a magneto that has been converted to an external coil.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Hi Eugene,
I do not know enough about electrics to clarify. There is a distributor mounted to the mag. All I know is if I disconnect a lead from the battery the engine will die. The generator is by passed and has no function, the black box on top of the mag is empty ( no coil etc ) and she gets her power from a 12 volt battery which has to be kept charged up on my charger from time to time. And as stated she has an external coil and condenser. Don't know if the extra info will change the answer you gave. Many thanks, .

Re: Points Gap ??.
It stays at 0.013" for a magneto, even when converted to external coil, because that keeps the timing correct. Changing the gap to 0.020", like a true battery ignition distributor, would alter the timing of the magneto to be incorrect for the cub. Its all about timing, not where the spark comes from. Hope that helps clarify the answer a bit more.
