My "newest" Cub project, a non-running 1951, has a later style 12V starter on it with the clutch type drive. The drive gear was chewed off so I got a new drive unit.
I literally on TOUCHED the gear on the new drive; it extended and LOCKED into place with a *click*. Permanently, it seems. I can't get it to retract.
What is the trick to get these to retract? I've wiggled, jiggled, twisted, flipped, pried, tapped, jiggled some more... It won't retract.

Apparently the drive will retract once the engine reaches a certain RPM.
This Cub was a derelict rescue that hasn't run in over 8 years and had a LOT of rusted out parts. Finally got it running tonight, and it runs GREAT.

Nice to get one running after it has been down for so long.
