Replace '59 front end with '48 front end?

Postby Ldperry » Sat Jul 11, 2015 7:07 pm

Hi Folks,
I have a 59 cub and an opportunity to buy a 48 Cub for parts. Would the front end of the 48 cub fit onto the '59? The main part I need to replace on the 59 is the base of the radiator ( it froze and cracked) and the steering (hard bind and will not turn to right). I was thinking to just replace the whole front end. Is it reasonable?
Thanks!

It'll work.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

If you want to keep your serial number plate, don't forget to take it off and put it on your donor bolster (lower steering gear housing). If you are reusing your radiator, I would suggest using new hardware (available from TM Tractors, a site sponsor) and be sure to chase the threads.

It's also a good time to oil your fan.

Have fun!

If your old one froze, it probably also bulged the top of the casting, and now the old radiator will have a bow to match it.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
