oil pan bolts

Postby ub54 » Wed Jul 22, 2015 6:27 pm

Sorry to keep bugging you guys but a new problem popped up . How in the world do you get the back three bolts back in the oil pan ? I have all the tools ( well maybe not ) to do the job ,even the 1/4 inch universal joint for it but it's still just a tad too long . My old fingers don't work like they used to . If I could just get the things started I'd be on my way. Any ideas ?

Should be able to get her done with what you have. Just gotta hold your mouth just right. :-) I bought the universal joint socket. Makes things shorter and more manuverable.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

You can use the special socket that Barnyard pictured or you can use a regular 1/4" universal with a regular socket and an extention like 10". But it all needs to be done with a 1/4" drive set. Also remember not to over torque the back three bolts because it's tapped into the Aluminum rear oil seal retainer and you can strip out the threads fairly easy.

They do make a low profile version of that universal socket, also. Just got one from Sears, but it was pricey! Before I bought that, I actually ground down one of my sockets for a lower profile, and that worked, too.

Try to get at it from both sides and the middle...have patience, and just keep working at it. You will get it! Good luck! :D
