Manual for 178 180 100 130 140 Planters ???

Postby BullDAWG » Tue Aug 11, 2015 10:09 pm

According to a part I found on e-bay, my planter is either a 178, 180, 100, 130 or a 140 (now this person might be incorrect but it is closer to right than me) does anyone know if we have the manuals for any of these planters? I looked in the manual section but couldn't find em. But I did find some planters were NOT in the planter folder but in other places so I tied looking EVERYWHERE without any luck but sometimes there are folders within folders n it gets confusing n muddled when looking. So any help would be GREAT...

I'm not a planter expert, but those numbers don't look right. Did you check here in "Rudi's Manuals"? http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Cub%20 ... index.html

The 178 and 180 were runner type planters that fit the 100, 130, and 140 Farmall tractors. There was also a similar 182 planter. That is pretty close for most eBay listings.

There were older model 100 and 140 planters. Nobody should have a problem confusing them with planters made for the 140.

I've seen on e-bay a 177 - 178 parts manual for sale but was hopping we had something similar on our manual database. Especially if I buy it and then find out mine is a 180 and I needed the "OTHER'' manual for another small fee of $19.95 LOL PLUS SHIPPING AND HANDLING ...

And THANK YOU BOB in CT. I still think mine is a 177 or 178 as it was on a 1950 model but that is closer to it than all the other manuals I looked at in Rudi's .

Post some pictures. We can probably identify it.

Looks like you have an A-178 with a POAX hopper. The hopper appears to have the corn equipment installed. Based on a couple parts changes, it looks like it was built in 1951.

I can't quite guarantee those answers as there may be some aspect or variations I'm not aware of.

I have 3 seed plates, but that will help me be able to find the others I want.... so thank you Jim

another quick question is on the fert. hopper. As you can see its in not so good shape. I know they sell new ones with the plastic hopper and the cast bottom end installed but do they sell either a metal or plastic hopper without the gears and bottom installed as I think I could salvage it just wanted to get a new one rather than a patch job on my old one. And I guess I'll be getting that 177-178 manual off of e-bay... I just didn't want to buy it only to find out mine was a different planter.

The fiberglass and galvanized hoppers do not mix with each other's cast bottom ends. If your bottom parts are good, you can replace the galvanized part only. If you want to change to fiberglass/plastic you would need to change the whole hopper. I don't know of a fiberglass/plastic replacement that will fit the base for a galvanized hopper.

Agri Supply sells a complete hopper with a plastic hopper for about $200. It appears to be a knock-off of the fiberglass style hopper. Wengers has a stainless steel replacement for the galvanized hopper. It runs $115. I don't know if there are other options or sources out there.
