Oil coming out of filter assembly
Just changed the oil and filter in my cub. Everything was looking good so I drove it down to the end of the driveway and back. When I parked and got off oil was running down the bell housing. It's coming from the top of the oil filter housing, from around the bolt head I think. After it cools and I clean it back up I'll see if I can find the problem but wanted to ask if anyone had suggestions? I noticed when I put the filter in it was tight around one end on the bolt. It wouldn't go on the bolt past the threads but if I turned it the other direction it fit perfectly on the bolt and stayed there. Is that possibly causing a pressure problem? Or am I missing a seal washer around the top of the bolt? The filter included a new O ring which I oiled and watched to make sure it set properly.

There should be a copper washer under the head of the bolt.

Re: Oil coming out of filter assembly
Sometimes that washer gets worn and needs replaced, or simply adding a piece of gasket paper will solve it for several oil changes.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: Oil coming out of filter assembly
So it looks like I have the filter on properly because it will only go one way. The previous filter would flip either way. I'm missing the washer. Should be able to pick one up at the hardware store

Re: Oil coming out of filter assembly
Make sure the washer is copper, the softer material allows it to conform and seal the surfaces.

Re: Oil coming out of filter assembly
Couldn't find a close enough copper washer so I wound up buying a 1/2" O-ring and putting under the washer. Seems to be holding nicely.
Meanwhile, is this enough oil pressure? Pretty much solid on this every time I look at it: (sorry if it's sideways I've tried to rotate it and upload it 3 times)
And while we're here today's safety note boys and girls:
While I was watching it run to see if the filter was going to leak I was putting some new linch pins in place of the nails, old cotter keys and wires they had put in all the implement rod links. Putting the one in the front one over the steering gear assy I wasn't paying attention to the fact that mine is missing the fan shroud and Ol Red bit me.
Thankfully it was minor, could have been way worse, and reminded me I need to GET a shroud and be more careful around it.

Re: Oil coming out of filter assembly
Cub max oil pressure is around 35 psi. Your oil pressure appears to be OK.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I have been using washers that have a wide seal around the inside diameter of the washer. The seal appears to be made of a material similar to an o ring. I tried a new copper washer, which leaked and then tried these these. They have worked great so far.
