Another one joined the herd, last week

Postby ScottyD'sdad » Tue Sep 01, 2015 3:11 pm

A 48 followed me home last week. Hand lift, engine is stuck. Ran 2 years ago, but smoked and leaked oil, from the rear engine seal. Belonged to a friend who passed away a bit over a year ago. Missing the carb. I was negotiating for it, over the past year. Wanted the carb , if they could find it, for the negotiated price. Otherwise, a lower price. Last week, they said , "we can't find the carb. Come and take the tractor, for free". Couldn't pass up that deal! Needs one rear tire, which I have, already. Think I'll have to bar code them, to keep track of them!

Looks like a nice addition to your herd. Price was right, too!

That's not a hole., Don. It appears to be a metal plate. Haven't explored it yet. Been bathing the engine with Kroil, trying to free it. Radiator has coolant in it, so it's not a leak. Been too hot and humid, to get much ambition. 90+, again today, and humid!

Not running yet. letting the Kroil soak around the pistons, and waiting for cooler weather. I don't function well at 90 degrees, and high humidity. Where was the global warming, in February, when I needed it?

Engine is now free. Want to check valve operation, and a few other things, before trying to start it. Too hot, out there, in the direct sun. Back to it, another day. Governor spring swivel, is stuck, too. Will free that, soon. Kroil is working on it, now!

Wow I'd love to have that tank/hood in the condition it's in. Looks original?

Unstuck one stuck valve, primed the oil pump, and spun it over with the starter. Then, a friend arrived and we towed it into the back yard, in the shade. Checked for spark, got none, so a mag swap, will be next. Comfortable weather, coming tomorrow, so I'll get that done. Almost ready to fire up!
