Fast hitch latch difference.

Postby Barnyard » Sat Sep 05, 2015 7:51 pm

I have seen the top latch on every fast hitch I have seen. Was the bottom latch from a later year?

Not sure which one was earlier, but loop on the second one is broken.

Yeah I saw that when I got it. I thought it was the same as the others at first with the breakage u  ntil I noticed the difference between the latches. It somewhat threw me for a "loop" at first.

Hi,
Yes, the one in the 2nd picture, with the 2 springs is newer then the one in the 1st picture. :)

Hi,
My Fast Hitch is one of the first ones, the latch and spring look like Barnyard's first pic. It has 1 spring. Other than that I don't know.
Here are pages from the Cub parts book, look at numbers 4 and 22 and see what you think. Read the info they wrote there. Glen. :)

It is listed as aux. #22, but I have never seen any with just one.

I just went out to confirm my memory. I have an early (Jan.) '57 and the latch is like the first picture and it has two springs. I'm fairly confident it is original, since it was Dad and Mom's Cub that I helped them bring it home from the original owner.

Hi,
Here are pics from my original 1955 Cub brochure. It has a pic of the latch and spring. Looks like there is 1 spring in their pic.
Bill, it would seem that by 1957 they had started using the 2 springs. I am not sure, but that's what it looks like, it is a small thing anyway. :)

Thanks guys, the springs weren't my concern, I was more interested in knowing about the type of latch.
