Remove and clean the main jet with spray carb cleaner and a soft copper wire.

As Barnyard points out the main jet is a culprit with the little hole that can get stopped up. If that doesn't do it you will need to check the flow to the carb and make sure you have a real good flow of fuel.
Most carb cleaners are effective. I even use pine sol to soak some carbs in.

Barnyard has you well covered. But if you end up needing something stronger, I use Berryman's Chem-Dip. It's usually available at Walmart.

Most of the time a full teardown isn't needed and does more harm than good, or at the very least takes a lot more time and fiddling when it comes to setting float height to prevent gas from leaking when parked. I rebuilt mine but it had been sitting for 20 years. If yours was running alright before, I'd just take the main jet out, clean it, spray Berryman B-12 or carb cleaner into the main jet passage, take the intake off and spray across the choke butterfly, and maybe take the adjustment screws out and spray into there. Just count the number of turns for the adjustment screws to get you back in the ballpark on reassembly.

Depending on whether you have the IH carb or a Zenith carb, this diagram may be of use to you. It is an exploded diagram of the IH carb:

If you take it apart be VERY careful not to break off #10 tube! Pull straight apart. Don't ask how we all know this. Carb is very simple. Screw is for idle Adjustment only. There are some excellent how to's on here, just use search function.

Don't take it apart yet. There is no need to risk breaking the tube inside. Do the main jet first and check for flow. Those can be done without opening the carb. If those two things are not the problem then we can discuss a tear down.

No, the carb can stay on. When you take the jet out you should get a good indication of the flow. You can also remove the plug on the bottom of the carb to check flow.

Here is the jet location.
