Farmall cub ; Purpose of tube on engine block..

Postby Gerald vanderheite » Fri Oct 09, 2015 11:45 am

Greetings. What is the purpose of the tube that runs from the block to the air cleaner intake?" The one on the cub I am restoring is broken off, Must it be replaced? If so where can I get one?

Thank You.
Jerry

The small diameter tube that you are looking at is a crankcase vent. These were not used on the later model cubs. If you want to replace it, standard tubing shaped and fitted is all it takes. If you want to eliminate it you can plug or cap the two connecting points. You might locate one by placing a wanted thread on the classified add forum, several members have parts available or contact one of the sponsors listed at the bottom of this page.
Listed in free downloadable PDF MANUALS, top of this page, TRACTOR PARTS MANUALS, TC 37F Rev 6 8-79, page 140 (GP 12, pg 30). Maybe this link will take you there: http://www.farmallcub.com/[ Sorry, direct links to manual section is not allowed. ]/downloa ... %20OCR.pdf Lots of other good information available there as well. The answer is yes, some what, when the tub and orifice are not plugged up, which they usually are. The orifice fits between the tubing and the engine block.

I wouldn't replace the tubing, just plug off both ends and Stan noted.
I have an excuse. CRS.

On my 57 the tube being plugged made a big difference a lot less mist after I cleaned it out , I don't understand the suggestion of just plugging the ends :?

If you have a considerable amount of blow by, mist, a clean tube and orifice will plug up sooner not later.

The tube and orifice was an early type of crankcase ventilation system. Work marginally at best.

Question. Why did IH discontinue utilizing the tube and orifice? My answer, probably didn't work very well.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Add a pvc valve in the line.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
