Final Drive "Small Spacer" Dimensions
I'm in the process of rebuilding the right side final drive on my '57 Cub. The casting was cracked at some point in the past and was "fixed" with a rather ugly welding job that I frankly don't trust. So while I wait for delivery of the replacement casting from JP Tractor Salvage I've been taking apart the old one to see what else might need repair or replacing. In the process I discovered there is no "small spacer" on the inside axle, nor any shims, such that the bull gear is free to move .25 inch or so side to side. None of the parts houses seem to carry either this small spacer or shims, but the spacer looks like something I ought to be able to turn out on my lathe. To do so, however, I'd like to have the relevant dimensions, i.e., inside diameter; outside diameter; and thickness. The one or two photos I've seen of this part also suggest it has a taper on one side. Could someone tell me the purpose for this and, in all events, which way the taper should face? Has anyone fabricated one of these small spacers before and, if so, any hints, tricks or suggestions? As for the shims, I have some brass shim stock I was thinking of using, but if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks all! This is a great group and the various posts have already helped considerably in other aspects of my restoration!

Re: Final Drive "Small Spacer" Dimensions
I have LOTS of photos from a few final rebuilds. Unfortunately, I have no measurements, but maybe these few of a right final rebuild will help some:
The tapered side of the spacer/washer faces the bearing, and the smaller surface of the top of that taper rides against the bearing.
You can probably find all those parts either by posting here on the VINE section of the Forum, or contacting some of the sponsors of this Forum like JP Tractor Salvage or TM Tractor Parts (links at the bottom). Good luck!
PS I MAY even have one from a replacement final, but would have to check. I could let you know Saturday or Sunday.

I found the parts to which (I THINK) you were referring. The large beveled spacer and one thin shim. PM me if you are interested.

Still need those spacers? Just asking, because I do have them here at my house.
