Magneto woes
I guess I'm all done with the magneto. I thought I had the problem ironed out, but no. As my previous post showed, the points were the likely culprit, but that didn't solve the problem. I have found that the brand new coil I purchased from Brillman was the issue all along. After much tweaking and replacing every part of the ignition system, only to get unreliable fire, I temporary replaced the internal coil with an external coil, and she fires and runs immediately, and is as smooth as she ever was. Much to my dismay, Brillman will not stand behind the 60 dollar coil I purchased, so I guess I am just out the money and back to square one. Looks like its an ignition rewire and external coil for me. I can certainly see why people tended to use external coils with the magneto now.

I hate it when a company want stand behind a product. The good thing is now your tractor is running good, and should not give you any more trouble.

Re: Magneto woes
So...Brillman is not a good source to get parts....Sorry to read that....I have got stuff from an Amish guy and had real good luck with his stuff...I like mags more than dist.....Seems half the time the batterys go dead from sitting....Mags produce their own juice...Sorry you got to pull your hair out on this one...Kevin

Re: Magneto woes
I don't know Brillman's return policy. Most auto parts stores have a sign stating no returns on installed electrical parts.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Magneto woes
Stupid question, but are your plug wires copper or carbon cores. Magnetos do not work well with carbon (resister core) wires.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: Magneto woes
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Brillman, they probably have lots of good parts, but this was my first and last trading with them. I understand they are " in the middle" , and I also understand no returns on installed electrical parts, but when I buy a new part, I don't thinks its alot to ask that it actually works.
