Need a coil - magneto coil not ignition coil - for my 1957 Farmall Cub...it has a crank start - no starter.
Went through a catalogue at local NAPA but the coils shown seemed to be for ingition coils.
Appreciate any help.
Tks.

Re: Coil for '57 Cub
I was just reading here the other day that Brillman coils may not be very good and they wouldn't stand behind what they sold.

Re: Coil for '57 Cub
Is it a case of not being very good, or they got tired of people buying and discovering coil was not the problem, or messing a lot of them up and then returning them?schmibm wrote:I was just reading here the other day that Brillman coils may not be very good and they wouldn't stand behind what they sold.

Re: Coil for '57 Cub
I did not know that Cubs came with a magneto as late as 1957. Would this have been original to the tractor, or was it swapped out from an earlier machine?

I think Clownfish said he got a mag coil from Steiner's. You could send him a PM for detailed info. Stan

Perhaps that's the reason for their stance on returns, but it sure isnt any fun when you get a dud and are left holding the bag.

Re: Coil for '57 Cub
The point is, there are many retailers of this coil. These are needed in very limited quantities. So they likely all come from the same China or Taiwan supplier. Might as well buy from the retailer that offers the best customer support. And that means replacing a faulty part if needed. Electronic part or not.
If someone feels Brillman is the best retailer, buy from them. Just beware if you need to return a part that could have been faulty from the supplier or from shipping, it probably ain't gonna happen and be prepared to be fine with that.
