Too Much Weight?

Postby Luke470 » Sun Oct 25, 2015 5:52 pm

As long as I'm asking questions. I have a regular 1963 fcub. It has a blade mounted on front and I put a fasthitch on the rear. I also have wheel weights and chains on it.
I was wondering if having the front blade on and a fast hitch back blade would be too much? I'm going to be using it for snow removal on level ground.

Thanks!

It will be ok if you have front weights, If not the front end will be light with the blade on the back

The best way to tell if it is too much weight is will the cub lift both. If it does the cub can carry it. The front mount blade will help hod the front down for steering. I frequently in the winter will run with a front blade, belly blade, and carryall with no problems, also with wheel weights and chains.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Here is my set-up that I have been using for 4 winters now.. No problem with font end being light with the blade on. I do not have a fast hitch so I rigged up a 12 volt winch for the back blade.

Not too much weight, but both are raised and lowered with the same TC lever..... there is an optional hook that will hold up the fast hitch, but I haven't figured out an easy way to hold up the plow.

you have a lot more weight on the front that a stock cub blade. My cub will slide the front tires in snow when turning without front weights.

Which hole are you guys using for the blade angle when snow plowing? Front, middle, or rear?

4thGen, is there a bolt that sets the angle?? If so, that's a very early Cub snow plow (McCormick) and you are mostly stuck with whichever you pick because it's a pain to change. There are no factory holes for an extension. The later blades (54 54A/L54) has a pin to set the angle. http://farmallcub.info/manuals/cub_leve ... e%2005.jpg

Are you referring to the bolt on the bottom that sets the angle of attack? If so, I like all the way forward for working on asphalt, but on gravel I prefer further back so it does not tend to dig in and get gravel. Of coulrse it also depends on how dense or packed the snow is.

Thanks, I have 50/50 gravel and pavement so I'll try it close to forward.
