1953 Cub with Implements

Postby chrisNB » Sat Nov 07, 2015 3:24 pm

I recently bought a '53 cub with a few implements. (Disc harrow, two way mold board plow, grader blade, pto belt gear box) I was wondering if someone would be able to help me put the proper hook ups/parts together. Would like to know what the rest of the implements names are and how to tell who made them, I believe its the original paint that is still noticeable if that helps. I took pics of all and any help would be greatly appreciated! Also if anyone has a rough idea what it would all be worth that would be great as well. Tractor also came with chains & wheel weights. This is all the pictures I was able to upload this time. I'll start with these and then I'll add more later. Thanks chris

First pic is drag bar for sickle mower. Second pic is rear cult bars, third is right side belly cult(partial), fourth is lift assembly for rear cults
There's more cultivator stuff in third pic, but I'm looking on phone and don't have a good view to tell what all is there

Hi,
Welcome to the website. Your part in the first pic is for a Cub 22 mower. That's a side mounted sickle bar mower. I don't know if you have the other parts of it, I only see the one in the first pic. Here are 2 pages from the mower owner's manual showing the parts of it, and the 3rd thing is the whole owner's manual.
The manual is for 3 different models of mowers, so use the info for the regular Cub.
Click on the pics makes them bigger.

The cultivator you have looks like the number 144, here is the owner's manual for it below the mower manual. The part in your 3rd pic is the right side of the universal mounting frame, which mounts on the tractor, and different cultivators that they had can attach to the same frame, there is part of it for the left side too. It is shown in the page below.

Thanks for the help so far. I do have more parts to the sickle mower, I'll look through the manuals and hopefully figure it out. For the grader blade, your also able to use it as a plow in the front of the tractor as well or am I mistaken? The disc harrow I have is green, two way plow is blue.. would that hope anyone to identify the maker? Any guess about price range for this type of package?

Here is a few more of the pics I took of my new toys. I'm hoping I can restore these items along with the cub over time.

Hi,
yes, the IH blade for the Cub could be used in front or under the Cub. Here is the owner's manual for it.
I don't know the values for the things, some of the other guys on here do, they will probably write. :)

What did you pay for the package?

You have asked several times for a guesstimate of price(s)/value.

So far you only have bits and pieces of implements. To be worth anything the implement(s) needs to be complete and in good condition. May be some value in parts if the implement is not complete.

Example the disc harrow. It will take a closer inspection to even guess at a value. Size, condition of the bearings and discs. The disc harrow may have a negative value, paying someone to haul it off, to perhaps $100- to $150-.

Just my thought. Why were the implements taken apart? Normally the implement is left in ready to mount on the tractor condition and not dismantled.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I paid $1500 for everything. I'm not sure why everything was taken apart. The person who owned it had it for 20 yrs left sitting out side and not well taken care of. He did have intentions to restore it but never got around to it. He passed away about a month ago so I bought it from his brother a few weeks ago.

Chris, I wouldn't worry about the value of your "new to you" cub and misc. equipment. You can always discover someone who bought a better tractor with more implements for less and in better shape. I suspect the price you paid was the right value at the time or else you wouldn't have brought it home. Git her tuned up and get ready to put her to work. Congratulations and good luck, Tom.

I agree with Tom.
I like looking at this kind of post and piecing all the different parts together, as do a lot of other guys here. Better pics would help identify what you have and where it goes. Sending pm with my email so it be be easier to send pics if you want

Thanks guys. I was just curious about how I did on the price. I just bought it where I've had my eye on it for over 4 yrs and just loved the look of it. Already keeping my eye out for my next farmall. Haha.

First of all, welcome to the forum!

In your part of the world, Cubs are not too numerous. So, if you purchased a running Cub with all these extras for $1500, you didn't get hurt, but you didn't get a "steal" either. Since you are planning on keeping, refurbishing and (perhaps) using it, time is less of a consequence. Take your time, explore this website and the links associated with it and you'll eventually piece together what you have (no pun intended).

Ask any specific questions you may have and since you know how to post pictures, that's the best way to show us the item in question. :coffee:

Hey Chris,

I think you did pretty good on the haul of implements to go with the tractor. Print out the manuals for the 144 cultivators and the 189 plows to see what you do and don't have. Same with the manual for the grader blade/snow plow.

Here are some prices for some of those items down here complete.

Cultivators----$350-$400
Snow plow----$225-$350
2 way plows--$250-$300
Right angle drive--$90
Potato sweeps-----$80-$90
Disc hillers--------$75-$90
Sickle bar mower--$150-$200
Disc harrow--------$150-$200

total it up on the low end and you came out a huge winner if most everything is there

Chris

Thanks for the price info. I come on here each day browsing and looking up on info. Once Xmas comes I'll have more time to put into the cub and putting pieces together.
