Dave,

Curious, were the final drives tore down and completely dry when reassembled?
Exactly how did you determine they "already had oil in them" if the pans were back on, and how much oil are we talking here?

To get back to your original question( which I know has already been answered)but to reiterate, the only way the finals could have a substantial amount of oil in them is from filling them. If the finals gears were "wet" when reassembled, a small amount could drain down over time into the pans and make it appear to be leaking in. But you would have to take them back off to see this.
